In Kreta starten wir unsere Stadtbesichtigung von Heraklion…
….welche uns durch eine blühende Stadt führt…
….mit einer Hauptstrasse direkt zum Hafen…
….mit der alten Festung im Hintergrund….
…und arbeitenden Fischern.
Von der Festung bietet sich ein wunderbarer Ausblick auf die Stadt.
Die Stadt ist sehr lebendig und immer wieder spielen Strassenmusiker griechische Melodien…
…und man kann die alten venezianischen Paläste bewundern.
Am nächsten Tag führt uns die Fahrt in’s Gebirge…
….wo der Ginster gerade blüht…
…und es unzählige Kirchen und Klöster gibt.
Besonders angetan hat es uns der kleine Ort Mochos…
…mit einer wunderbaren orthodoxen Kirche.
Die Einwohner sind sehr gläubig!
Das sind die Windräder, wie man sie von zahlreichen Fotos und Prospekten kennt…
…aber leider hat man diese auf der Kuppe zur Lassithi-Ebene ziemlich verfallen lassen. Schade!
Das ist die fruchtbare Lassithi Hochebene!
Beim Anstieg blicken wir mehrmals auf das Schauspiel der Natur…
…und sind überrascht von der gewaltigen Höhle, in welcher derGöttervater „Zeus“ geboren wurde.
Tief im Inneren des Berges. Gewaltig!
Bei der Fahrt zurück nach Heraklion wählen wir die Route durch das unbewohnte (ausser Ziegen) Karstgebiet.
Heute steht die Besichtigung des Palastes von Knossos auf dem Programm….
…und wir werden nicht enttäuscht. Lebten doch einmal 10.000 Menschen in dieser gewaltigen Anlage, deren Ursprung auf ca. 2000 vor Christus geschätzt wird.
Im Archäologischen Museum bekommen wir einen Eindruck von der Minoischen Kultur.
Es ist unglaublich, was aus der ersten Hochkultur Europas noch alles erhalten ist.
Wir sind doch ziemlich traurig, als die Costa Luminosa ohne uns den Hafen von Heraklion verlässt. Sie war doch für fast 4 Monate unsere Heimat und wir haben mit ihr viel von der Welt gesehen. Aber es nützt nichts, wir müssen zu unserem Flug nach Wien!
